VERSES Instruction Manual Introduction VERSES is a utility that works with Windows Marquee screen saver to put different Bible verses (one of 12 verses from the Psalms or 12 Proverbs) on the screen when the screen saver engages. How it works The Marquee screen saver stores the text for the screen saver in a Windows file called CONTROL.INI. Every time VERSES is run, it selects a verse at random from a list of stored verses and writes the verse into the appropriate place in this file. NOTE: VERSES does not display a different verse every time screen saver engages. It changes verses only when the program is run--a quick (less than 3 seconds) process that can occur automatically when the computer is turned on or manually any time you wish. How to use VERSES Step 1: Activate the Marquee screen saver - Click on Windows in the Windows menu bar. - Double click on Main. - Double click on Control Panel. - Double click on Desktop. - Select the Marquee option under screen saver. - Configure the screen saver for font type and size, speed, and background color. (I recommend a relatively small type size (about 12) so that all or most of the verse appears on the screen at once, and a black background to provide maximum screen protection.) - Exit Desktop, Control Panel, and Main. Step 2: Put VERSES on your hard drive YOU MUST COPY VERSES INTO THE SAME DIRECTORY THAT HOLDS THE CONTROL.INI FILE. On most systems, that is C:\WINDOWS. You may have installed WINDOWS onto another drive. Step 3: Run VERSES. There are at least two ways to run VERSES. Option One (Manual): To give yourself access to VERSES at any time so you can change the verse at will, install it in your Windows Applications or other Window that you have easy access to. Installation steps: - From the Windows Menu, choose File...New. - Select Program Item. - Type the description you want to see on the Window. I recommend "Verses" or Psalms". - Type the complete path where VERSES is located. For example, C:\WINDOWS\VERSES - Select an icon. (I use the up arrow to remind me of the source of the verses.) Thereafter, whenever you want to change the displayed verse, double click on the Verses icon. (The program runs on my 486-33 in about 3 seconds.) Option 2 (Automatic) (can be done along with Option 1--the options are not mutually exclusive): To run verses automatically when you turn on your computer, update your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to run VERSES. For example, if VERSES is in C:\WINDOWS, type the following line near the end of the AUTOEXEC.BAT: C:\WINDOWS\VERSES (If you don't understand the concept of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and how to change it, please let someone help you. Do not attempt this action on your own.) Notes This program writes to the CONTROL.INI file--a simple text file in which WINDOWS stores various kinds of information. Although there is at worst a remote possibility that the file could be damaged during this process (for example there is a power outage in the middle of the resave process), I recommend you save a copy of your original CONTROL.INI file under a different name or in a different place. Go into the WINDOWS directory and type copy control.ini control2.ini This action will save a copy of your control.ini file to a new file called control2.ini. Then if you need to restore your original control.ini file you can type copy control2.ini control.ini Creative Solutions shall not be responsible for any damage that occurs to your computer as a result or apparent result of using VERSES. You are free to distribute this evaluation product to others provide you include the auxiliary files, MANUAL.TXT and README.1ST.
